Poem: Charitable Works

We hire the poor ones
to produce an invitation
to our sappy sunflower party
at the villa.

Then we send them out to consign
the invitation to lofty neighbors
who instantly lift their snobby noses
at the messenger.

Coming together we erect pedestals
to our own charitable enterprises;
as the poor worker we hired
trudges home to try and feed
his starving family.
